Broken Cisterns

The Word of God gives us the nourishment we need to live abundantly in this world | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Jeremiah 2:13, NIV

My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.” (Jeremiah 2:13, NIV)

Many people in the secular world look for life in the wrong places. Believers always need to be on their guard to avoid making this same mistake.

Notice this verse begins with “My people.” They are accused of making to two big mistakes: forsaking the true source of life and looking to alternate sources for meeting their needs.

Our Unlimited Potential

“But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” (ESV)

If we could only comprehend what the Scripture says about our relationship with Jesus Christ, then our faith potentially would be greatly strengthened. The power and the wisdom of God literally reside on the inside of us. If we believe this and meditate on it, who knows what the Holy Spirit may choose to reveal to us, “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:3, ESV)

God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you.” (Psalm 62:11, NLT)

Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NLT)

It is amazing what lengths people will go to in order to gain access to those they perceive as “powerful people.”

Acknowledging God’s Mighty Power

God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.” (NKJV)

Power belongs to God. This is confirmed throughout Scripture. No wonder the Psalmist said, “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him” (Psalm 62:5, NKJV).

The psalmist learned in his life experience with God, “By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation, You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of the far-off seas” (Psalm 65:5, NKJV).

Do we as believers have the same expectation as the Psalmist in our everyday living? The answer should be a resounding “YES!”
