Scripture: Proverbs 3:3-4, NKJV
“Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.” (Proverbs 3:3–4, NKJV)
Have you ever thought about what is written on the tablet of your heart?
In KingdomNomics, we stress the importance of soaking the heart in the Word of God. The heart is like a sponge; it soaks up whatever is around it. Whatever we soak it in becomes the treasure of our heart. If the water is dirty, then the treasure is dirty. If the water is clear and pure, then the treasure of the heart will be pure and clear.
The Word confirms this:
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45, NKJV)
What is the “abundance” found in your heart? Whatever it is will manifest itself in your life. People will be able to tell what consumes you and what controls your thought life and behavior.
This passage is telling us to bind mercy and truth around our neck, and to do the same with all the instruction we receive from the Word of God. We are to memorize and meditate on what God is saying to us in his Word. As we meditate on the Word of God, we are “writing these truths on the tablet of our heart.” What is written on the tablet of our heart becomes the abundance of the heart from which our mouth speaks.
The result: we gain favor and high esteem in the sight of God and others. What more does any person need than the favor of God?
Today, ask yourself:
If others were to examine my heart, what would they find “written” there? Does the way you live reflect God’s truth, written on your heart?
