[Elijah] went into a cave there and spent the night. Suddenly the Lord’s message came to him, “Why are you here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9)
Have you ever been in a place and asked yourself, “What am I doing here?”
For the KingdomNomics thinker, this is a very important question. As we make choices daily, this question should always be in the back of our mind. Are we where we are supposed to be? Elijah was actually hiding. He was not where God wanted him to be.
The ways in which we decide to spend the time God has given us will determine how much of our activity will echo into eternity. The spending of our time, talent, and treasure, however great or small, will determine if we have anything stored in the “First National Bank of Heaven.”
By soaking our heart in the Word of God, we will discover what is important to him. He will reveal his will, plan, and purpose for our life as we focus on him. His desires will become our desires as we surrender our life to his life, allowing him to do his work in and through us. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to direct us to the places and things we should be pursuing.
Today, ask yourself:
In what ways do my everyday choices show that that I have a clear answer to the question, “What am I doing here?”
