14. Are you Focused on the Son?

“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 16:8, NIV)

When you drive a vehicle, you keep your eyes focused on the road. Pilots of aircraft keep their eyes focused on their instrument panels, particularly in inclement weather. Focus is a critical factor as we navigate through life.

If we focus on the wrong values, we will crash. But, like the psalmist, when we keep our eyes on the Lord, we will not be shaken. Christ is the goal of life—pleasing him, doing his will, being transformed into his likeness, and ultimately, being with him in heaven.

Clarity of mind is key. Staying focused on God requires discipline. When our minds are consumed with worry and anxiety, divine counsel can get blocked. Disturbing events that fill the news make it difficult to keep looking straight ahead. But God is always with us! The psalmist also says, “I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me” (Psalm 16:7, NIV). What a privilege it is to have a living relationship with the living God who is available to us at any time!

“Lord, you give me stability and prosperity; you make my future secure” (Psalm 16:5).

Today, ask yourself:

Where is my focus?
