Scripture: Colossians 3:1–4, NKJV
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1–4, NKJV)
We should take the words of Jesus to heart when he tells us to build up treasures for ourselves in heaven. Treasure in this world ultimately perishes. In addition, thieves and rust can make what we treasure here disappear.
The Psalmist reflects on the fact he has nothing else in heaven other than the Lord. Any stuff or treasure we have in this world will be left behind unless we have “converted it” into the imperishable by investing it in the kingdom.
We can tell where our treasure is by what we are giving our heart to. Jesus says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21, NKJV)
Today’s passage tells us to set our minds on things above. This can be hard when we are facing difficulties. However, as Christ progressively gains control of our life, we will want to set our heart on the things above. Our life is hidden in Christ, and we will appear like him when we reach heaven.
Talk to God
Thank you, Lord, for reminding me to build up treasure for myself in heaven. I need help to cause me to think on the things above. I am learning my treasure is you, alone, and I want to have a closer relationship with you.
