Scripture: Proverbs 3:3–4, NKJV
“Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.” (Proverbs 3:3–4, NKJV)
Have you ever thought about what is written on the tablet of your heart?
In KingdomNomics, we stress the importance of soaking our heart in the Word of God. The heart is like a sponge; it soaks up whatever is around it, and that becomes the treasure of our heart. If the water is dirty, then the treasure is dirty. If the water is clear and pure, then the treasure of the heart will be pure and clear.
The Word confirms this:
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45, NKJV)
Whatever this “abundance of the heart” is will manifest itself in my life. People will be able to tell what is in my heart. They will be able to discern what controls my thought life and my behavior.
This passage instructs us to not only bind mercy and truth around our neck, but to do that with all of the instruction we receive from the Word of God. In other words, we are to memorize and meditate on what God is saying to us in his Word. As we meditate on the Word of God, we are “writing these truths on the tablet of our heart.” What is written on the tablet of our heart becomes the abundance of the heart from which our mouth speaks.
This is big-time important to God. If we write God’s Word on the tablet of our heart, it will impact our behavior and the way we talk.
The result: we gain favor and high esteem in the sight of God and others. What more does any person need than the favor of God?
Today, ask yourself:
What am I writing on the tablet of my heart? If someone were to look into my heart, what “abundance of the heart” would they find?
