Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3:6–7
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” (ESV)
Proper growth only comes from God. As we grow in Christ, our focus becomes sharper with a greater comprehension of what Christ wants us to do in this world. We also want to make sure that any “growth” we experience is growth sourced in God.
The proper place to start the growth process is stated by Peter, “As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.” (1 Peter 2:2, NKJV)
Without proper nourishment, we cannot grow. In KingdomNomics we strongly emphasize the importance of absorbing the Word of God to make it personally operative in our lives for the purpose of empowering and transforming us into cultivating the desire to become strategic kingdom investors.
Furthermore, through the Word we discover our design, purpose, and work God has for us in the body of Christ. We want to be an effective and productive part of the body of Christ to help it grow.
Paul emphasizes the importance of us finding our place, “from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” (Ephesians 4:16, ESV)
Only by proper connection to the head of the body of Christ can we expect to grow properly. Only God can make the body grow as long as it stays connected to the head. Some lost connection and stagnated: “They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.” (Colossians 2:19, NIV)
We need to remember that it is the Lord who does the works inside of us. “Lord, You will establish peace for us, for You have also done all our works in us.” (Isaiah 26:12, NKJV)
Growth comes from him and his Word. “Therefore He says: ‘Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.’ ” (Ephesians 5:14, NKJV)
Only then do we find life and favor: “For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 8:35, NKJV) “How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.” (Psalm 36:7–9, NKJV)
Today, ask yourself:
- Am I growing in Christ?
- Am I feeding my soul on his Word regularly?
