The Most Powerful Relationship Possible

The Most Powerful Relationship Possible | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Revelation 3:20, NLT

Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” (Revelation 3:20, NLT)

In KingdomNomics, we focus on our relationship with God. This verse from Revelation assures us that Jesus Christ will come into our life, just like we would have a friend over for dinner.

And yet, our relationship with Jesus is even more powerful than human friendships:

Jesus replied, ‘All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.’ ” (John 14:23, NLT)

You can’t get much more intimate than making your home with someone!

Saved to Do Good Works

Saved to Do Good Works | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Titus 2:14, NKJV

“…Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:14, NKJV)

Good works do not save us. I want to be very clear about this.

We are not saved “by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:5–7, NKJV)

Good Works do Not Save Us. We are Saved to Do Good Works

We have been saved to do good works. Let’s be very clear about this. Good works do not save us.

Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:14 NKJV)

Among other things, we have been saved to do good works.

Let’s be clear about this: good works do not save us, and we are not saved by the good works we do.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:5–7 NKJV)

What a Savior!

What a Savior! | KingdomNomics.comScripture: John 1:29, NIV

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” (John 1:29, NIV)

I never get tired of hearing God’s wonderful plan of salvation. It is truly all a work of God. The Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, takes away the sin of the world. That includes my sin and your sin. He does it without our works, behavior, or anything else:

For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.” (Hebrews 10:4, NLT)

We are told, “My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” (1 John 2:1–2, NLT)

Justified Before God

Justified Before God | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Romans 10:9–10, NIV

If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Romans 10:9–10, NIV)

This passage is the wonderful message of salvation. It is a work of God himself who alone can do this. Other passages of Scripture confirm this truth:

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” (1 John 2:1–2, NLT)

Christ Alone is the Source of our Salvation

The source of our salvation is Jesus Christ alone | KingdomNomicsScripture: Matthew 7:21–24

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (ESV)

Recently, I received an email from a subscriber of KingdomNomics wanting an explanation of the above verses. No matter how great the ministry of an individual may be, we must remember the source, power, and foundation of our salvation is the person of Jesus Christ alone. Only he gives us right standing before God, not our works.

Ever Grateful

We must be crucified with Christ, counting ourselves dead to sin | KingdomNomicsScripture: Colossians 1:12–14, NKJV

…Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

This passage is a great candidate for being a Spiritual M & M (Memorize & Meditate). I lift my heart in gratitude to God for his marvelous provision of salvation. Truly, he is the God who sees and provides.

Skate Toward the Puck

Ice Hockey GameScripture: 2 Corinthians 5:10

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” (NIV)

Wayne Gretzky, the famous hockey player, reportedly advises, “Skate to where the puck will be.”

The Lord Will Provide

Wooden crossScripture: Genesis 22:14

So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.’” (NIV)

What an incredibly intense encounter with God! Abraham was told by God to sacrifice his son, Isaac, as a burnt offering. Nothing was more precious to Abraham than his son. Abraham had so much faith in God, and was obedient to the point of preparing to sacrifice Isaac when God, at the last moment, provided the lamb needed for the sacrifice.

What can we learn from Abraham’s encounter with God?
