Fix Your Eyes on Christ, Not on the Problem

Scripture: Hebrews 12:2, NIV

“…Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2, NIV)

One of the most difficult lessons we, as believers, must learn is how to fix our eyes on Jesus Christ instead of focusing on the problems and challenges we face.

Fixing our eyes on the problem is debilitating. It leads to depression. In fact, we can make an idol of our problem if that is all we think about.

The Roots of Hope

Where are roots of your hopeScripture: Habakkuk 3:17–19

“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.” (NIV)

From a circumstantial standpoint, the prophet Habakkuk lived in a terrible time. The land was soon to be invaded and, because of the disobedience of the people to God over time, prosperity was no more. Even though the circumstances were bad, Habakkuk gives us the formula for not only surviving but also thriving in such a period.
