What is Written on the Tablet of Your Heart?

What is Written on the Tablet of Your Heart? | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Proverbs 3:3-4, NKJV

Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.” (Proverbs 3:3–4, NKJV)

Have you ever thought about what is written on the tablet of your heart?

In KingdomNomics, we stress the importance of soaking the heart in the Word of God. The heart is like a sponge; it soaks up whatever is around it. Whatever we soak it in becomes the treasure of our heart. If the water is dirty, then the treasure is dirty. If the water is clear and pure, then the treasure of the heart will be pure and clear.

What it Means to ‘Adorn the Doctrine of God’

What it Means to ‘Adorn the Doctrine of God’ | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Titus 2:10, ESV

…Not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.” (Titus 2:10, ESV)

True faith is having a relationship with God through the person of Jesus Christ. Christianity is not a list of dos and don’ts or an intellectual belief in the tenets of the Christian faith.

We have been born again to a living hope – a relationship with the risen Savior who lives in and through the life of the believer.

Good Works do Not Save Us. We are Saved to Do Good Works

Good Works do Not Save Us; We are Saved to Do Good Works | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Titus 2:14, NKJV

Jesus Christ gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:14, NKJV)

We have been saved to do good works. Let’s be very clear about this. Good works do not save us.

We are not saved “by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:5–7, NKJV)

Weave a Pattern of Gratitude to God

Weave a Pattern of Gratitude to God | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Psalm 50:23, NKJV

Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.” (Psalm 50:23, NKJV)

When someone thanks you for what you’ve done, it’s a nice feeling. Expressions of gratitude strengthen our relationships.

The same is true with our relationship with God; praising God and expressing gratitude enhances our relationship with Him.

Turn Challenges into Opportunities to Trust God

Turn Challenges into Opportunities to Trust God | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Hebrews 12:2, NIV

“…Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2, NIV)

Problems, challenges, and changing circumstances are part of living. One of the most difficult lessons believers must learn is to fix our eyes on Jesus Christ instead of focusing on the problem we face.

Fixing our eyes on the problem is debilitating. It leads to depression. In fact, when all we think about is our problem, we can make an idol of the problem.

Playing to an Audience of One

Playing to an Audience of One | KingdomNomics.comScripture: Psalm 44:3, NKJV

For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, because You favored them.” (Psalm 44:3, NKJV)

The world elevates those whom it proclaims are “self-made” individuals. Many of these people bask in the glory given to them.

In reality, all of life is sourced in God. Psalm 44:3 shows believers that we are not self-sufficient people who can claim successes of our own making. The Lord makes it clear that possession of the Promised Land didn’t come from anything his people did, but from the hand of the Lord. Therefore, any glory should go only to God.

God’s Power Factor

God’s Power Factor | KingdomNomics.comMemorize and Meditate

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4, ESV)

God has made such power available to us through the gospel. That power is the preaching of the cross: Christ—the power of God—is in us.

Prepare for Action by Focusing on the Light of God’s Word

Prepare for Action by Focusing on the Light of God’s Word | KingdomNomics.comMemorize and Meditate

Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.” (2 Peter 1:19, NLT)

So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.” (1 Peter 1:13, NLT)

Soak your Heart

Scripture repeatedly reminds us to set our minds on the things above and prepare for action. We do this through the transforming work of the Word of God. We are to pay attention to God’s Word the same way we would fix our eyes on a light in a dark place.

Purging Trust in Self

Purging Trust in Self | KingdomNomics.comMemorize and Meditate

In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.” (2 Corinthians 1:9–10, NLT)

Soak your Heart

At times, circumstances can seem overwhelming. Sometimes this happens so God can teach us not to rely on ourselves.  He wants us to realize that our sufficiency is from God. He wants to purge us of the leaven of trusting in self.

The Son Empowers Us to Cast Darkness Aside | KingdomNomics.comMemorize and Meditate

“‘So may all your enemies perish, Lord! But may all who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength.’ Then the land had peace forty years.” (Judges 5:31, NIV)

Soak your Heart

When we experience Christ—the Morning Star—rising in our heart, it feels like the sun when it rises in its full strength. The sun scatters the darkness.
